All ran as expected from Halifax to Toronto to London Gatwick. At London Gatwick I made my way to the south Terminal to fly Aer Lingus.
I went up to the Aer Lingus ticket counter to check in. They indicated I was too early and to come back in a couple of hours. I asked them if they had an earlier flight. She looked at my ticket to see that I had priority booking and I was able to get a free change a flight to an earlier flight. I saved 4 hours of waiting at the London airport with this ticket.
When I got to Dublin I went to the Enterprise Car Rental counter. I wasn't sure what they would do where I was 4 hours early for picking up my car. But they had my car ready and they adjusted the time of pickup and drop off to accommodate my early arrival.
To my surprise I was able to go visit a World Heritage Site which I was planning on doing in the morning but really glad I did it today.
Newgrange Monument is a neolithic site which is over 5000 years old. It predates Stonehenge period.
Similar carvings can be found like this all over the world.
Archaeologists classified Newgrange as a passage tomb, however Newgrange is now recognised to be much more than a passage tomb. Ancient Temple is a more fitting classification, a place of astrological, spiritual, religious and ceremonial importance, much as present day cathedrals are places of prestige and worship where dignitaries may be laid to rest.
Thre other structure we visited was quite intriguing. There were many mounds around this site and they had discovered many artifacts and bones through their archaeological digging.
The big stones on the right were all moved here from over 18km away. Carvings were on most of them and all were orginal.
A tunnel goes through to the center of this dome but is no longer accessible due to a collapse of part of the structures.
A beautiful landscap
I stayed thre night st Newgrange Hotel and hiked the streets. Some excellent lighting.
Very tired, almost fell asleep twice preparing this.
