Uluru – Sacred Place – Sacred Tribe
The unforgiving land ...

If you are looking for a warm place to go … well, this is it. After getting off the plane, I grabbed my luggage and I headed out to the car I rented. As soon as I walked out the airport door I was hit by the heat … I couldn’t believe it. I thought the souls of my shoes were going to melt on the pavement. Out of habit, when I get into a car I sit, close the door and then put on my seatbelt. Well, let me tell you, after I closed the door I could not breathe it was so hot. It was over 40 degrees celsius!!! I quickly opened the door, turned on the car and air conditioner. I had to stand outside of the car and open all the doors. Once I got back in and on the road, I could barely hold onto the steering wheel as it was scolding hot. Never, have I experienced such heat.
I arrived at the hotel which was air conditioned, thank goodness. LOL A bus load got in just before I arrived but the staff were very organized and quick to get everyone assigned rooms. It was quite evident that you cannot do too much during the day, so I had a little nap. Eventually I drove to the local market and got some groceries along with a lot of water to drink in the hotel and on the hikes. I was very pleased to have a fridge in my hotel room.
That evening I took a trip to Uluru for sunset photo’s. I got to the provincial gate and paid for a 3-day pass. It was amazing to finally see Uluru for the first time. I observed many people wearing netting over their heads. Well, when I got out of the car I learned very quickly why … I have never seen so many flies! It was hard to believe that there would be that many. I would not recommend that you talk to anyone without having a net over your head as you would probably get a mouthful. While setting up the tripod and camera I was constantly swatting myself to remove flies … they were getting in my ears, my nose all over the face. I have to admit, it was beginning to agitate me a little. LOL Even with all the flies, I am so glad to have witnessed the colors … the sunset … and yes, the heat. Ha! Ha! Ha!
