September 25th to 29th, 2020
What a great visit! I needed a break after all the unpacking. Went down to Lethbridge for some family time!
September 25th
Arrived at Bonnie's late Friday night, but still had time for games. A great evening.
September 26th
Had a good sleep and once I got up, Bonnie had breakfast all ready. Sooo good.
Getting ready to hit the morning market ... love this market.
We drove to the MaGrath area and stopped in for an ice cream, Wow! Was it ever good. We took a side trip to an ammonite mine ... loved the scenery.
I met up with a friend of mine, Pierina. We took a walk down by the river at Indian Battle Park. It was great catching up with her.
Bonnie cooked up some corn, vegetables and steak ... yummy! After a full stomach ... game time!
September 27th
After breakfast we visited an art event being held outside. Got there too early, and decided to do a little shopping. Stopped by after for a quick visit before heading back to Bonnie's.
Played a few games and then met a friend of Bonnie's, Pat. A lovely positive lady, with quite a talent in painting. Looking forward to seeing more of her work.
Charlie and Karen came over for supper. Bonnie cooked up a whole chicken. It was amazing! A lovely time.
After a few games, I headed over to Charlie and Karen's for a couple days.
This evening, we planned for our biking day tomorrow in Waterton. Getting up early, so off to bed I go.
September 28th
We drove to Waterton Lakes National Park. Parked near the town of Waterton and prepared for our 32km trek ... bikes ready ... gear ready ... problem ... very windy here. We decided to try part of the trek and if too much wind would turn around head back to vehicle and alter plan to a hike.
The bike ride is up the Akamina Parkway to Cameron Lake. This road has been closed since the fire of 2017 and will be reopening October 1st of this year. So, to bike this road before any vehicles are permitted is special and we just cannot miss this opportunity.
The bike ride to the lake is 1000 feet gain in elevation. The initial part of the road is steep and then it is a continuous climb at least 95% of the road.
This is the view from the first half kilometer up the highway. Prince of Wales in foreground and the place where we parked our vehicle.
It is a shame to see all the burned trees. I remember how beautiful this area was. Still, it made for an interesting photo.
This is the kind of scenery you see along this highway with no vehicles ... Amazing.
Quite a few waterfalls can be seen along this stretch which is not visible from a car ... another bonus of biking it.
So many trees destroyed by fire.
We made it back to Cameron Lake! It was quite a challenge I must say.
A panorama of Cameron Lake with Charlie and Karen standing on a dock.
Also a few selfies of us at the lake.
After lunch and a few pics, we headed back towards Waterton.
The lighting was perfect for some mountain scenery.
We were shocked how quickly we made it back ... less than half the time and we still stopped to take some pics.
I just loved the natural beauty of the area.
Back in Waterton. A selfie from Emerald Bay ... another fantastic bike trip.
A great day with this lovely couple.
