Mount Backus ... a Different Perspective of Table Mountain

June 11th, 2019

What a day! Left early this morning for our first hike together this year (my brother Charlie and I).

After driving by Beaver Mines, we started our bushwhacking hike through the forest and up ... no trail to follow for this hike. Not as easy as I initially thought. LOL

We broke out into some clearings to find such a variety of wild flowers.

For me, I found this to be one of my top hikes. It was truly inspirational to look over to my all time favorite climb ... top of Table Mountain. It was so nice to see this magnificent mountain from a different perspective.

A lot of different natural beauty that possibly may have never been seen by anyone. Did I mention there were no paths or trails. Hahaha

It was fortunate that Charlie had his GPS to guide us the best way to the peak and back again. Without the GPS ... or Charlie ... I would still be hiking my way through that area. Lol😂

Thank you Charlie for this photo of our journey.

When you look at where you are going, it looks like just a hill (until you start climbing - Hahaha) ... a couple times I had to zigzag my way up.

The scenery was absolutely incredible. A light breeze ... a sunny day (23 degrees Celsius) and a million dollar view.

More magnificent wild flowers.

This almost looks like those critters from Whoville. Hee Hee Hee

No matter what direction you turn, the natural beauty is awe inspiring.

We reached the summit and placed a stone each on the Cairn. There was a jaw bone from what we believe was an elk.

After a lovely snack and water, we made our way down ... but we both don't like to return the same way we came up. It is always nice to take a different path for new adventures ... even when there is no path to take. LOL

Sometimes the growth was so thick, it was difficult to see the deadfall underneath. This made for challenging hiking moments.

Neither of us have ever seen so much bear scat in one place. This particular bear has a special location ... very unique indeed.

Such a tremendous hike today. I will admit that I thought I was in better shape than I was for this hike ... but it was quite the challenge. A challenge I would do again in a heart beat ... such a perfect day.
