Well what a gorgeous day in Lagos part of the Algarve. Today, I walked up to the point called, Ponta da Piedade. This point south of Lagos is absolutely stunning. The limestone cliffs change in perception when the sun shines. The natural stacks, caves and arches are plentiful in the area.
Tourist boats touring the arches over the beautiful emerald color Atlantic.
Lighthouse on the point of Ponta da Piedade.
View along the cliffs looking back towards Lagos. You can see the beaches, however there are a lot more beaches that you cannot see from this angle.
Tide is out and you can wall through the arch below. This beautiful beach is called Praia do Camilo.
View through this arch.
Walking back from the point I just followed paths. I speed at this busy lovely beach, Praia Done Ana.
I walked down to this part of the beach and looked in the cone you can see in the photo below. You can climb down into the cone and there is a small opening that takes you to a secluded beach. I could fit through the opening easily but the tide was coming in so I knew I would have to swim back if I went through. Guess I will have to come back tomorrow. LOL
The opening to a secluded beach.
Back in Lagos I stopped at this monument named, Sao Goncalo de Lagos.
A small fort called, Forte da Ponta da Bandeira can be seen on the waters edge. This fort was built in the 17th Century to defend the Lagos harbor.
A draw bridge to the fort entrance. In is time this fort was one of the most advanced forts in the Algarve.
Behind the fort is part of the old castle wall. In the entrance was this memorial, I could not find much information on this.
This was one of the main entrances to the 14th - 16th Century medieval town.
For supper I stopped at Mamma Mia and tried the spaghetti ... it was okay, but just a little runny. After ordering it, the waiter brought my beer and told me it would be half an hour before it would be ready. I was a little puzzled as they were not that busy.
A unique building in the old part of town.
I was told by a friend to stop in to see this bar. It was closed today but opens at night. I will have to stop by tomorrow night.
The pink flags are where I walked the first day and the green flags the second day. Covered most of this coastline. The yellow are places I still want to see.
