I left Lisbon at 10 this morning and after 3 hours I changed trains in Tunes. It was very organized because after waiting 15 minutes I caught the next train to Lagos which took 45 minutes. It was a rainy day so was a good day to be on a train.
I arrived at 2pm and worked my way along the boardwalk to the hotel ... what an absolutely beautiful first impression ... even though it was cloudy and raining.
After checking into the hotel, and the staff were so pleasant. I took a walk around the neighborhood. In the front of the old part of the village is the waterfront and at the back of the old town is an ancient wall. Beautiful narrow streets with cobblestone walkways.
The sidewalks were so nice even the cars liked them. lol
These walls were updated in the 1500's on top of the old Moorish walls.
I visited a couple churches in my travels. They certainly had character and tomorrow I must check out what they look like inside.
Along my travels there were some unique trees and flowers in backyards. I had to take photos of them. They were sticking out over the property, I didn't have to jump the wall. Lol
From detailed pattern on sidewalks to lovely wall murals.
Walking the old town, I came across a grocery store and bought a few items.
When I returned back to the hotel it dawned on me I did not have a fridge in the room. I sent to the front desk to see if they had a fridge I could store the beer. He indicated they had no fridge but would see if there was any ice. He was not sure there would be any ice because they just opened for the season two days ago! Thank goodness they had ice. I said to him that I don't like to drink warm beer and he replied, "Who does? I hope it is Portuguese beer. " LOL
I was taking photos of the hotel when I overheard a couple foreigners who had rented a car couldn't find gas anywhere.
The gas strike has affected the entire country of Portugal. I am so glad I did not rent a car. Apparently some stations have some gas, but if you don't know where to go that would be a problem.
The hotel clerk suggested I go to the roof and take a few photos, that it was a nice view from there. He also suggested to try 630am for a sunrise pic.
A friend of mine in Nova Scotia informed me that he heard about a bus crash in Lisbon where 29 people died. I was listening to the news last night and never heard a peep about it ... the only thing on the news was about Notre Dame Cathedrale.
