September 10, 2018
I could not say anything earlier about my continuing adventure in British Columbia, as I did not want my Uncle to be aware that I was in the area for his surprise 80th birthday party. His birthday is on September 29th and I went off the grid into “stealth” mode from September 10th to the 27th. LOL
Talk about some adventures … let me share some of them with you.
So, let me back up to September 9th for a brief review. On this day, I picked up my brother Charlie at the Kelowna Airport to begin a joint adventure of tenting in the fall in BC. It is going to be a lot cooler, but we are up for the challenge.
Today, September 10th, we left our brothers (Peter) new home in the morning and headed to the grocery store, in Vernon, to stock up. This is going to be a different experience as I have been solo cooking for two months, but we shall persevere … hopefully my brother will enjoy my cooking ... but he will probably lose weight. HaHaHa
We finally got on the road and made our way towards Wells Gray Provincial Park. Along the way, we stopped at the information place and got a lovely map that highlights about 16 out of 39 waterfalls in the region. We were not on the road for very long when we saw a coyote “skipping” through the tall grass. Okay, maybe not skipping, but it sure looked like it … it jumped out of the tall grass repeatedly. Too funny.
Just before entering the park we saw a black bear with two cubs. One cub was hiding up in the tree and eventually came down. The sow and the other cub were laying down below the tree.
Our first stop was at Spahats Falls. This waterfall was a short drive to the parking lot and a very short walk. When you first get up to the fence, you don’t see the waterfall, but two sheer cliffs with water flowing between them. As you make your way along the fence you soon see the falls. You are taking the photo’s from above the falls and the water had eroded over the years to create a bowl for the water before going over to the river below. It was very nice to say the least.
Very close to these falls was a 1km side road that takes you to The Shaden. It is a scenic overlook, with a view of an arch that is not open on the other end. For a clearer understanding of what I am referring to see the photo below. The lighting was not the best for a great shot here.
Continuing along the road we came to Mush Bowl Falls which you cross over on a vehicle one lane bridge. Once over the bridge there is a little pull off and we walked down to the water to take some pics of this waterfall. Seeing the two waterfalls on the first day, what will tomorrow bring? The waterfalls in this area are absolutely beautiful!
We drove to the end of the road to Clearwater Lake Campgrounds and set up camp. All ready for the next day … time for a cold one.
