Nature Surrounds You

September 22, 2018

This morning, woke up early, as there was a boat whining down the lake and our neighbour started his generator. So much noise for early in the morning.

It was a beautiful rainy day and we were ready for seeing new things on our drive.

Our first stop was to visit a waterfall, it turned out that the road got narrower and rougher the further we went on it. There was no place that you could turn around, so had to make a place and make our way back out of this road.

We then went to visit Upper Falls, which was a beautiful waterfall by a lake. It had many different channels with the water coming down, but was not easy to find a good place to see the entire falls, it has not been fully developed yet. And, this was nice to see.

On the way back off this side road we stopped a short distance to see the Lower waterfalls, which were nice, but the bridge goes over the middle of the falls, which takes away from it.

On this back road from Likely to Barkerville, we encountered another black bear. After driving passed the bear, I pulled over and we walked back to where the bear had gone into the woods. By walking quietly, we saw the bear come back out of the woods and was on the side of the road. We got a little closer to it, but it was quick to notice us and quickly ran back into the forest. The bears in this area are very skittish and very shy to be around humans. I was lucky to get a pic of it before it disappeared into the woods.

A little further, I saw a bear ahead on the road and pulled over to the side. Walking down to it, we got fairly close, but as soon as it heard us it was gone.

We got onto the paved road and made our way to Quesnel to fuel up and get more groceries. We stopped into the information Center and got some ideas of what to see at Barkerville.

On our way out the door there was a museum next to the Information Centre. Bill, a retired teacher knew a great deal about the history of the area between Quesnel and Barkerville. He gave us some great information of places we could visit and take photo’s of, and some very interesting factual information about Stanley and the entire region. We have decided to stay in the area for a few days and check out some of his suggestions.

Time to get back to Barkerville area and get our camp set up. It is going to be a cool night from what we hear … summer is definitely long gone here. HaHaHa
