Packed up and made my way back towards Skidegate.
I stopped in Old Masset to see the old totem poles. You can take photos of the totem poles by businesses, but need to ask permission to take photos of the Totem poles in front of homes out of respect.
There were a large number of eagles flying around the community … such an awesome sight.
Took a different street into New Masset and saw this lovely artwork on a building.
Stopped at Lake ???? for lunch, no one around made it very peaceful.
When I got back to Skidegate there was a celebration at the museum. They had a live band, dancers, story-tellers, displays, food … it was quite an event. One guy stopped and asked me if I had done the zip-line on my t-shirt in BC. I replied that I had and he indicated that he lives near there. After talking for a few minutes it turned out that he goes to the same church as my brother Peter and Lina … small world.
I headed into Village Queen Charlotte and fuelled up. Gas is expensive on the island, but wanted to make certain I had enough to get me around Moresby Island. I had to be at the ferry terminal to catch the 3:30pm ferry.
Once across the inlet, all the other vehicles turned left and I turned right onto the gravel road. I decided I would make an attempt to stay at Mosquito Lake first and then go to Gray Bay at the end of the week.
After driving for about 32km, I stopped at the only side road by a lake and I am not certain if this was Mosquito Lake or not. There looked like a bunch of abandoned pull-offs for camping and fire rings, but it looks like they have not been used in recent years. I walked down to the lake and saw an old abandoned pier … not sure what that was used for, I will have to check.
I continued on the gravel road and it turns out that there were no signs to pull off for Mosquito Lake, I actually drove completely to Gray Bay campgrounds! LOL Oh well, guess this is where I wanted to be.
Well, it turns out to be a beautiful bay and a nice touch … the campsites are FREE! I love this place.
