Heading to the North Pole!

July 16, 2018

I took my time to get up, pack and go as it was raining lightly. I headed out of the park at around 9am and about a km into my drive a cow and calf moose were on the road. I stopped to watch them and they just kept walking down the road. Eventually, I found a pull-off and got out to take a few pics.

They watched me as I watched them and eventually I headed back to the truck. When I drove up, they were nowhere to be seen.

I made a quick stop at the North Pole … seriously … the North Pole. HaHaHa … Yes, the town North Pole, Alaska is just before you enter Fairbanks. This town celebrates Christmas year round. I am willing to bet that their schools didn’t have the debate about changing their Christmas concerts to Winter Concerts. HaHaHaHa

I stopped at the North Pole Information Center and got the list of what to see in their lovely community.

One place I stopped at was of a pole that was flown in a plane over the true north pole and they have it standing in the front of one of their parks.

It was a busy little town and a lot of visitors were parked at the Christmas Store along with the reindeer petting zoo. It was a fun town to drive through.

Finally made it to Fairbanks and found a campground that charged the same as the State parks, but the nice thing is that they have showers!! Ahhhh, once again I feel clean. LOL

I stopped at the Information Center to book a few days in at the Denali National Park. They are all booked up until the end of the month! I won’t be staying at the park, but I will spend a few days visiting the park and staying at a State Park nearby … hopefully. Could have booked on line last week but didn’t think that this would be an issue … lesson learned.
