Awesome Wildlife and View at Summit Lake by Stone Mountain

Right now I am sitting in front of a calm beautiful jade color water at Summit Lake at the Stone Mountain Provincial Park. They say the weather can change here very fast from sun to snow any day of the year. I am blessed as the sun is shining and it is fairly calm … and it is a very nice temperature … at least right now. Hahaha

And now for my day: This morning I woke up to a sunny morning. Still lots of mosquitoes in this area, but so peaceful. I had a quick breakfast and then went down to the lake to see if there were any photo opportunities. Two adult geese with their little ones were on the small wharf, but quickly went into the water. I snapped a couple nice pics.

After drying out the tarp and tent from the last couple of mornings, I got on my way at 8am. I am hoping to see some wildlife today. I drove to Fort Nelson without a single siting.

At Fort Nelson, I gassed up the truck, got some cash out of the bank for Provincial Parks and stopped at IGA to buy some groceries. I was putting stuff away when a can of beer fell out of the truck. The way it hit on the pavement it started to spray. A guy passing by said, “That’s not how to drink a beer.” We both laughed, but I couldn’t waste it and so drank most of it. There is nothing like a warm beer early in the morning. LOL

I continued to drive and again I did not see any wildlife. I pulled into the Summit Lake to take a few pics. The guy working there asked me if I was going to camp there. I told him I was only taking a photo … and how nice it was there. I asked him about wildlife and he mentioned the Stone Sheep, Moose and Caribou. I decided I would camp here for the night.

After setting up tent, I went down the road and came across a few Stone Sheep. Got some nice pics of them (Best ones will be placed on my photo website :)).

I went back to camp and had a big early supper and then read about the area.

I decided I would go on a short hike and drove back down the Alaskan Highway. About 2 km there were more Stone Sheep with large horns, I snapped a few pics.

I then proceeded to Erosion Pillars Trail. This was a unique hike to see these unusual pillars in the middle of the forest. Certainly was worth the hike in to it.

I headed back towards the summit and nearing the campsite came across a caribou! Took a few pics, before a vehicle stopped and scared it into the forest. I then went down the road to see if there were any other caribou around … I didn’t see any.

I headed back to the campsite, pulled out the chair and a cold one and sat by the lake … awesome!!!!

After a little while, I looked up at the hillside and decided it would be nice if I could get a higher shot of the campground and the lake. I found a path and went for a half hour hike.

Another great day and another wonderful sunset!
