Got up super early this morning … 6am and didn’t have breakfast … I wanted to get on the road as soon as possible. Got packed up and headed out to find some wildlife. Saw some Stone Sheep, but did not stop for any photos as I had already done this yesterday.
After I descended Stone Mountain, I stopped at Baba Canyon and did a short hike into here. It was quite a beautiful spot to take a short hike into.
Headed down the road and saw an Elk just before Toad River. Damn, I didn’t have my camera ready and had to pull into a side road. When I went back it was still there, but when I slowed down it took off into the woods.
In Toad River they have a small airport strip right beside the road! This was quite interesting to see. I spotted a moose on the other side of the airstrip, right beside the salt shed, just enjoying a lick of salt. LOL
I got to Muncho Lake at around 8:30am and stopped in both provincial campgrounds. Both of the campgrounds were completely full and the water of the lake was a beautiful jade green color … certainly a nice spot. I was informed that there would be no problem getting a spot along the lake camping, and that it would be difficult to get one at Liard’s Hot Springs Provincial Campground. Well, realizing it was Friday morning and that would mean more people would be around camping, I had no choice but to see if I could get one at Liard’s Hot Springs.
Just before getting into Liard’s Hot Springs, there were over 25 wood buffalo by the side of the road. I stopped to take a few pics and one decided to get into the middle of the highway and then just stare at me … I couldn’t drive forward until it moved off the road! It didn’t even bother to cross the road, but went back to the same side it was on … testing me I guess. Hahahaha!
Got to Liard’s Hot Springs Provincial Park and to my surprise being there at 10:30am I had a choice of about 8 spots. I got my camp set up and had a soak in the hot springs, what a beautiful spot. Camping at the site, it is free to go into the hot springs … so worth it! If you are just visiting for the day it costs $5.00 per person. I got back to the campsite and was tired because of the hot water soaking so had a nap. LOL
I woke up to the wind and a light rain, so I just read and organized my next section of my trip. Around 9:00pm, I started to prepare a campfire dinner … at 10:00pm, just when it was about to be done, the rain came down hard. Not going to let a little rain stop me from enjoying such a fine meal. Hahahaha!
Another busy day, but it was so relaxing and enjoyable. It is great not feeling like I have to rush. I also saved two days, because I was going to camp at Muncho Lake, but now just going to go back tomorrow and take a couple of photo’s and do the hikes I wanted to. Then I can come back and soak in the hot springs before a good night rest. Love it! Is this the life or what?
Oh … rain stopped … now to eat and get some shut eye … chat with you tomorrow.
