February 22nd
Arrived in Puerto Montt early afternoon … picked up our car and headed to our accommodations. We arrived too early, but the host was lovely in welcoming us. We parked the vehicle and left our stuff in the car as our room was not ready. After our host gave us a map and explained where to go. We did a morning urban hike.
There was a great deal happening in Puerto Montt. There were quite a variety of musicians playing around the town. Also, we walked into a grocery store and found the biggest Toberlone chocolate bar I had ever seen. LOL
We found a case of 24 beer on sale for about $14.00CDN … our first major purchase after arriving here. LOL
On our way back to the room, carrying our case of beer, I had to stop to take a pic of these dogs chilling by a restaurant. There are a great number of dogs just roaming around town. They just ignore you.
We discovered a sign about a beer festival happening in town this weekend! We decided this would be an awesome way to spend our Saturday! Oh ya!

Today, we left in the morning for Puerto Varas, where we plan on stopping for our dinner in the evening. It was about a ten minute drive to this town and we continued through this town and made our way to a provincial park.
Our first stop in the park was at Saltos de Petrohue, a very nice waterfall. We hiked to along the path to a few places along the river. There was no fee to enter the park, but there was a fee for parking the car and entering the waterfall area. The price was reasonable, 1,000.00 pesos for the parking and 3,000.00 pesos to enter and visit the waterfalls. There were other paths that you could hike on if wish to.
We continued to down the road until it turned to gravel and drove another 15km approximately to the end. Along the way, we got some amazing photos of the volcano and also Lago Todos Los Santos … the water was a very nice emerald color.
We returned back to the road that does a circuit around Lago Llanquihue and then made our way up the road to Volcan Osorno, a cone shaped volcano. At every corner that we could see this volcano was absolutely amazing, but once we climbed to the end of the road, which was about halfway up the volcano.
We decided to hike around the mountain and did we ever get some incredible views!!! What a great panoramic view from here. Looking back at the mountain and watching the cloud creeping over the peak was so majestic.
After spending a good part of the day here, we made our way back down to the lake circuit road and continued our journey around the lake.
We drove another 100km back to Puerto Varas, which took about 2 and half hours (taking our time). There were a lot of people in Puerto Varas to be part of the festival. We ended up eating at a pub and then listening to a young lady sing at stage that was set up.
We enjoyed the entertainment and then made our way back to the vehicle. On the way, we watched the sunset reflect off of Volcan Osorno across Lago Llanquihue. We could almost see where we had been earlier that day. What a beautiful end to the day.
