This morning, I got an email that they were going to deliver my suitcase today. I asked them about what time would it be delivered … they indicated it would be between noon and 8pm! I thought maybe the front desk would be kind enough to accept it if I was away. I talked to front desk and he shook his head yes. So, off we went to a tourist information office to find out cost for local tours. We found out that one place we wanted to go to, which is a UNESCO site, we didn’t need to book a tour, but could take bus to this town which is about an hour and a half away from Santiago. This was good news.
We then went to LATAM Airlines to get my ticket from Galapagos straightened out. They had changed the flight time to leave 7 hours later than scheduled which would mean I would miss my connecting flight to Peru. They made the necessary changes for me and off we went.
I walked into a barber shop to get my hair sheared off. I asked what it would cost to do a quick shear and he stated it would cost 18, 000.00 Chilean Pesos!!! Instead of getting upset, I pulled out my phone and said, “I think I saw it on line and it was only 10 000.00 Pesos. He then indicated that he would do my eyebrows and I said no. He then indicated that this changes everything and 10, 000.00 would work. He saves face, and I get my haircut. LOL
We got back to the apartment and when I talked to the staff at the desk about my suitcase (a new guy was on duty), he pointed to a sign on the wall. The sign indicated that the front desk staff cannot be responsible for any packages brought to desk, that it is up to the people in the apartment. Well, this changed everything and now I would be stuck in the apartment until my suitcase arrived. The suitcase was brought back at 4:00pm and it was soooo good to have my toothbrush and new clothes.
After a few minutes we headed out to do some urban hiking. We took the subway over to Santa Lucia. We walked about 2 minutes and came to this amazing old historic hill that was incredible to see.
From the old buildings to the old steps that took you up to Cerro Santa Lucia, and you would have a panoramic view of Santiago. Not far away you could see Cerro San Cristobal, which we hiked up yesterday.
We then walked across the river to Bellavista District. This section of Santiago many of the buildings had graffiti and murals painted on them. Some of the buildings were bright in color and was actually a fun area to visit.
We walked back to the apartment, but decided to take a different route. About half way back we came across an area that had quite a few tents set up on the grass. A guy was literally cooking on a fire that he had going right beside a stoned building.
Another guy was doing the wash. It was a different site to see none the less, not often would someone be cooking on an open fire next to a stone building. Wow!
