We left Lethbridge at 8 am for Waterton Lakes National Park. It was cloudy with a little bit of snow down but not that cold and certainly was very windy. On our way to Waterton we drove by Mountain View and it was very cloudy with some unusual looking clouds that I had to stop to take a picture with the mountains in the background.
We stopped at the old information building, or should I say, where it used to be. Just last fall it had burned down and we stopped to take a few pictures. They were planning on building a new information center in the town but it was still sad to see this landmark burnt down
We drove into the town of Waterton to find blowing snow, high winds and quite chilly. We made our first stop at Cameron Falls. A lot of water was still flowing with huge amount of ice art all around the falls.
We went over to Emerald Bay and walked up to the point by the strait called Bosporus. This is one of our favorite places where there are just a few lonely trees growing on a small point through the rocks. Ice was layering on the rocks, plants and also on these trees. We explored some wonderful ice art along this shoreline.
We went back to Waterton, and stopped at the camp kitchen. We started a fire and have lunch including Smokies. You can look out the window to see the wind howling and snow blowing. What a memorable lunch to have at this location.
On the way out of Waterton we turned down on a back road and drove to Blakiston Creek. We hiked on a well worn path and came to a river. We followed the river a short distance and heard some noise. Looking across the river we saw a huge herd of elk. There were well over 200 heads and quite a number of Stag's. What a sight to see and what amazing sounds they were making.
