Travel USA - New Orleans to Pensacola

I woke up early this morning and went out at 6:45am to do a photo session around the French Quarter of New Orleans. I walked the streets taking a great deal of photos until my return to the room at 9:15am to wake Nancy up. It was quite an interesting morning ... many people sleeping in doorways of businesses, on decks of someones home, and also in the middle of an island that separates the road.

I really enjoyed the different homes that were around the area ... so colorful and each being unique.

The old metal railing added a grace to these buildings.

This coffee shop had a line up waiting to get in both days we were here. This was the only place that was completely packed in the morning while other places were empty all around the area.

This is the St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest running church in United States. It was very nice inside.

View from the wall showing contrast of battle versus peace.

Carriages await oncoming tourists. Photo gives a feeling of the past.

Police car in New Orleans ... certainly easier to get through some of the narrow streets.

Foggy morning ... can hardly see the Mississippi River, bridge and cityscape.

I found this sign to be interesting ... Voodoo and Old World Witchery ... would like to have visited the store, but not open this early.

Nancy and I left at 10:30am from New Orleans and made our way to Pensacola, Florida. The trip can be made in 3 hours, but we decided to take a more scenic route. After leaving New Orleans, we made our way on Route I10 east and leaving Louisiana and entering the state of Mississippi. A short distance east on I10 we turned off onto highway 607 until it connected onto highway 90 east. We drove over Bay St. Louis and made a quick stop into Pass Chrisitan. This was the beginning of a very long beach that went from here through Long Beach, Gulfport to Biloxi ... what a long beach! It looked the same the entire way which was over 40km. Such a nice white sand.

It was very interesting to see so many homes that were built on stilts or being built on stilts. It is due to the flooding in this area that has led to many of the new homes to be built in this manner.

We travelled through the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and into Florida. We stopped in Pensacola, Florida for a few days rest.
