Slept in for the morning and went to Graceland around 11am. We only had to drive about 7 minutes to get there. Amazing how many people were here visiting, much more than I imagined this time of year.
After purchasing the tickets we first visited Elvis' two planes. The Lisa Marie plane was the most impressive with so many chairs, sofa's, etc. that you feel more like being in someones house rather than inside a plane.
This was a special table where Elvis had taken his daughter Priscilla up in his jet for her birthday and served her birthday cake on this table.
This was Elvis' pool room. In the corner of the pool table there is a rip in the cloth where someone was trying a trick shot that did not work.
This room became known as the "Jungle Room". It held some unique furniture items in this room, including a wall that had water running down.
A great number of Elvis Presley's awards are found in this room, but this is by only a few of them.
Elvis had been known to be a very generous man. He unanimously gave away money to those in need. If someone approached Elvis, he would write a cheque and send it to them. Quite often he contributed to various organizations and he was known to have purchased homes, cars for some people truly in need. Below is a cheque that he had written to one organization.
Front view of Elvis Presley's home.
Panoramic of Elvis Presley front of home and side wings.
Elvis Presley front door of Graceland home.
Panoramic of Elvis and family graves. The graves are distorted because of panoramic shot.
Close to where you purchase your tickets is a radio station dedicated to Elvis music.
Nancy and I went down to Beale Street to see what it was like during the day.
There were some very unique buildings on this street.
After taking a break, we came back down after dark to see what was new. The street came to life!
The police were certainly on the scene. They had over 6 cars and about 12 officers. On this street you are permitted to walk carrying your drink up and down the street. If you purchase your drink in one place e were not allowed to take it into a different establishment. But it was pretty neat walking up and down the street listening to the different bands.
About two streets over there was this horse and buggy that you could rent, all lit up.
Rendezvou is a well known restaurant in Memphis and is located in an alley. They are quite well known for their ribs and their pulled pork sandwiches. The pulled pork sandwiches were $10.00 each, but do they ever give you a lot of meat on it! Wow! Nancy could only eat just a little under half of her sandwich. In front of the restaurant, parked in the alley was a limousine. On the window it had Red Hot and what looked like a chili pepper drawing on the windows. The band Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing at the centre just a couple blocks away.
